Drovers

One of the greatest successes of the streetscape of World Expo '88, was the series of white sculptures, 'The Human Factor'. The Drovers' are five (only 3 shown here) of almost eighty figures in the series - that portrayed people in everyday situations - all frozen in time, capturing the essence of life in Australia.

Originally created in fibreglass, many of the much loved 'Human Factor' were purchased at the end of Expo '88, but not all exist today. In 2005 'The Drovers' were recreated to preserve the sculptures that continue to serve as a reminder to the people of Brisbane the contribution Expo '88 made to the growth of the city.

I loved these Human Factor sculptures at Expo and I love to see them around the city. As you say, not too many left but fortunately I bought the book at Expo so I can get my fix. More than anything, they remind me of the great excitement around Expo 88, which changed the face of Brisbane. We probably wouldn't have South Bank if it weren't for Expo. Thanks for the nostalgia trip!

Valladolid: They are fun to see around the city, but not too many of them left now.
Dianne: If they weren't all white you could easily mistake them for real people.
Inner Artist: I wasn't here for Expo, (living in Perth then), but have heard many tales of the excitement that Expo caused. And thank goodness for South bank!

Nice bit of local history here. We never had drovers where I live.

Yes, I remember both the Expo and the Comm Games. And both were instrumental in bringing Brissie into the 20th century!!
