High Wire

A left-over from Expo '88 is this unicyclist who spends his days sitting in the air looking over South Bank. This was one of the many artworks that was part of the 'Human Factor' and 'Streetscape' sculptures. Few now remain. Another one can be seen here Drovers

Abs of Steel

If you happen to pass by Kangaroo Point Cliffs you will come across these metal sculptures, a left-over from World Expo '88. All along this popular area you can find a walking/cycle track, great views of the city, and the cliffs are a perfect place for rock climbing and abseiling. Too much exercise for me this early in the day!

If you stopped by yesterday you would have seen three of these guys standing around in the city.  I'm not so sure they'd get away with boiling their billy on the pavement! Here they are in their full glory almost under the shadow of Brisbane City Hall.

One of the greatest successes of the streetscape of World Expo '88, was the series of white sculptures, 'The Human Factor'. The Drovers' are five (only 3 shown here) of almost eighty figures in the series - that portrayed people in everyday situations - all frozen in time, capturing the essence of life in Australia.


Originally created in fibreglass, many of the much loved 'Human Factor' were purchased at the end of Expo '88, but not all exist today. In 2005 'The Drovers' were recreated to preserve the sculptures that continue to serve as a reminder to the people of Brisbane the contribution Expo '88 made to the growth of the city.

The Heat is Up

Another scorching day here as temperatures sit at a minimum 36c. Being by the Brisbane River offers some respite. This sculpture is a left-over from World Expo '88.

Welcome to my Warm Slice of Brisbane

Hopefully you will come with me on my meanderings around this beautiful city, it's environs and parts of Queensland.

On a day when temperatures soared to almost 35c this was the place to be. This is South Bank which was the site of World Expo '88. It is Australia's only beach in the middle of the city and sits alongside the Brisbane River.
