Storm Front

Last evening, I knew that I had only a few moments to dash out of the car to snap the approaching storm over the city. Fortunately I found a parking bay and just hoped that the traffic warden wouldn't come by and fine me for not buying a ticket! The air was tingling with electricity, even though we didn't actually have any thunder or lightning. But boy, oh boy, you should have seen the rain that followed. It was a deluge with the streets running like rivers. This is the Story Bridge over the Brisbane River with the CBD beyond.

waouw! (a bit of a French twist there.)

I really like this shot and the angle you used. I like the way the skyline seems to follow the line of the bridge. The bits of color of the buildings that peek through the struts add another dimension to the whole. The muddy-looking water juxtaposed with that sky and the frame of green balanced with the green across the river...I'm back where I started: waouw!

The sky, the angle, the water, the amazing bridge, and.... the colors! WOW! I wondered if the bridge had lights at night and if you had ever taken a shot. The bridge structure reminds me of a Mississippi River bridge half-way round the world from you.

The rain that followed was amazing with some localised flash-flooding, but the hatches were well battened down. The bridge has lovely lines and although not the Sydney Harbour Bridge, I like it!

It was rather a WOW moment which could have been lost so easily if I didn't have my camera in the car (I always keep one with me). Have a look at the next post for a night view.

Brilliant, Al! That pre-storm light is so dramatic and it brings out the river's natural tones of day-old-tea and dishwater. Apparently the Brisbane river used to be clear once upon a time... before sand dredging. It's hard to imagine, isn't it?

This was a case of being in the right place at the right time. I could see the sky getting blacker in my mirror and pulled off beside the bridge for this shot. I'd love to see the river running clear again, but with all the dredging and with the recent rains, it's going to be some time yet!
