Nature's Jewels

It's amazing what you come across when you're not even looking for something. As I was walking along, enjoying the sunshine I saw something shiny and iridescent on the side of this tree. Thankfully I had my camera. It scuttled along the bark rather fast so I was lucky to capture this shot. Don't ask me what type of beetle it is...I have no idea.

A wildish guess is a Jewel Beetle - see http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/. The bark looks like a Hibiscus tree (Cottonwood) native around the coast. Wonderful photo!

Amazing jewelled colours on this little critter.

Fans of The Fast Show are probably wondering if this is the dunny beetle. I guess you could only find out if you had a torch with you :-) (The accents in that sketch are terrible)

Thanks Elaine. I think you're right and it was on a cottonwood tree.

Well spotted Kirsty! LOL
