All You Can Eat
With an abundance in spring flowers it seems that there is more than enough food to go around for the birds. Here you see a rainbow lorikeet feasting on seeds and nectar.

Restaurant In The Sky
This time of year seems to be one massive feeding frenzy for the birds as they feast on fresh blossom and the emergence of insects and various bugs that seem to multiply before your eyes. Personally if the birds can keep the bugs down to an acceptable level I'll be happy!

Polly Parrot
It's time to finish our short tour of Springbrook National Park, and as we head back into the new week I'll leave you with another one of the locals that can be seen all around the area. Despite having Polly Parrot as my title, this is a male Australian King Parrot, endemic to eastern Australia, so perhaps Percy Parrot is more apt! Have a great week.

Rosella
Yesterday I alluded to the bird-life that abounds in Springbrook. A common sight is the crimson rosella, a parrot native to eastern and south-eastern Australia. With that distinctive colouring they're not going to be hiding from prying eyes too well...but they are rather nosey, so perhaps they don't mind being photographed.

Camouflage
Almost unseen, the ubiquitous rainbow lorikeet blends perfectly into the trees and flowers. As this week starts out with cool winds and wet weather it's a cheering sight to see them.

Mr Percival
Any of you familiar with the Australian book and film "Storm Boy" will know straight away the reference to 'Mr Percival'. For those of you who don't know the story, Mike (aka Storm Boy) lives a reclusive life in the sand dunes on the coast of South Australia with his father. One day he comes across a pelican mother who has been shot and he rescues the three chicks. He names them Mr Proud, Mr Ponder and Mr Percival, and nurses them back to health. The pelicans are released back into the wild, but Mr Percival returns and a special bond is formed between child and bird. Unfortunately, Mr Percival is shot by hunters, and he dies.
As a child, growing up and living in the UK, I always dreamed of living in Australia and seeing pelicans. Little did I know that my dreams would come true. Mr Percival, above, was snapped at Bribie Island.

Pelican
I love watching pelicans with their silly walk and crazy beak. Bribie Island is always a good spot to while away time enjoying their antics.

Start The Day Laughing
Sometimes it is nice to just sleep in a little, but this happy fellow made sure that I was well awake very early. This is the Laughing Kookaburra, a member of the kingfisher family. These large native birds are best known for their unmistakable call which sounds like hysterical, echoing laughter, albeit good natured. Despite his maniacal cackling, I was happy to be awake early.
