Blue Dress, Yellow Socks

The Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers is more than gardens and beautiful blooms. As the name suggests there is a great carnival atmosphere with amusements and rides, food, music and dancing.

But there was no getting away from the floral theme with cheerful flower prints on the dresses.

Carnival of Flowers (2)

I really wish that there was such a thing as a 'smell-o-blog', because the scent of the flowers was amazing, especially this magnificent tunnel of wisteria. As you can see it was the perfect place to sit a while to enjoy it and to escape the searing heat.

Carnival of Flowers (1)

If you take a 90 min drive west from Brisbane, you come to Toowoomba, nicknamed the 'Garden City'. At this time of year it's not hard to see why it has that accolade. Every September, the city has the Carnival of Flowers, the longest running floral event of its kind in Australia. Sunday turned out to be an absolutely perfect day with wall-to-wall sunshine and temps of 29c.

Be Calm.

No matter how much I tell myself that the week ahead will be good, I know that it is going to be hectic. Perhaps some calm reflection and a few moments of 'time out' to relax will be needed. This is in the Japanese Garden at Mt Coot-tha gardens. Hope you all have a great week ahead and manage to keep your stress levels low. Happy Monday!

Under the Dome

Depending on the time of year determines what you get to see inside the tropical dome, but with living things, there is always something new.

The Aliens Have Landed

Looking more like a spaceship, this is the tropical dome at Mt Coot-tha botanical gardens. We are blessed with two botanical gardens in Brisbane, one, smaller one, in the city, and this lush oasis just 6kms from the city centre. It sits at the base of Mt Coot-tha from where yesterdays picture was taken.

Lazy Weekend

It's good to forget about work and to relax, and Roma Street Parkland right in the middle of the city is the perfect oasis. It is the world's largest sub-tropical garden in a city centre. We are truly blessed with such green spaces around Brisbane.
